Kitzsteinhorn – 3,000 m above everything
The first fresh fall of snow on the Kitzsteinhorn is in the autumn! The sun casts long shadows; the mountains sparkle in the crystal-clear autumn air and on the glacier the first freshly fallen snow. For skiers and snow boarders the nicest time of the year starts now: dive into the crystal-clear snow and enjoy your freedom at a height of 3,000m. Skiers and boarders alike experience a feeling of absolute liberation on the Kitzsteinhorn and at 3,000m snow that is a little different. Dreamlike ski runs of different levels of difficulty make snow fans’ hearts beat faster and offer something for everyone: on the glacial plateau beginners have an ideal training ground, pros and those who want to be one, can practise their skills on the permanent racing run or test their limits on the mogul slopes or challenging ski routes.

Schmitten – extensive, diverse and versatile
Ski until your legs burn or take things a bit easier – on the Schmittenhöhe, enthusiastic skiers of all levels will have found their own personal snow eldorado: 77 km of slopes (25 km of which are designated “black” slopes [classified as difficult]) just waiting to be skied on. Those who want more will rampage down the mogul slope, the speed measurement track or enjoy themselves on the training area. A tip for deep snow fans: after a night of heavy snow it is good to get up early because classic descents such as the Trass are usually prepared later in the morning – an 800m descent on a deep-snow “black” run is a unique experience!

Maiskogel – the family mountain
Up on the Maiskogel, your family mountain at the centre of Kaprun, there are 68 hectares of snowy, well-prepared slopes. At the start of the resort you’ll see the 4-seater chair lift that will take you quickly and comfortably to the slopes in just a few minutes. The Maisilift is especially suitable for beginners and the other slopes there are well-prepared with easy and intermediate levels of difficulty. At almost the same time as the TAUERN SPA opened, the Maisi-Flitzer was also inaugurated, a permanent mountain rollercoaster. If the weather at higher altitudes is not suitable, the Maiskogel which is at a lower altitude and has lots of trees (improves the visibility) is an attractive alternative. The Maiskogel is less than 1 km from the TAUERN SPA and can be accessed on foot.

Free of charge ski bus from the TAUERN SPA
You don’t want to bother with your car while you’re on holiday? You don’t need to. The ski bus stops right by the TAUERN SPA and will transport you and your family for free – incl. stress-free - to your preferred ski area. This way you protect the environment and can happily stay that bit longer at your Aprés Ski celebration.
Other ski areas galore
As well as the three “home mountains” - the Kitzsteinhorn, Schmitten and Maiskogel - there are other very beautiful ski areas in the vicinity of the TAUERN SPA Zell am See - Kaprun. Within a circumference of 20 km you have direct access to ski areas such as Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Maria Alm - Hochköning or Kitzbühel. Even the Lake Weiß glacier area in Uttendorf – a small tough ski region fiercely guarded by the locals because of its excellent opportunities for free riding – is not far away.
